Even if your car seems to be in great condition and you have it serviced regularly, there is still a chance it may fail the annual MOT test.
Stricter MOT rules introduced in 2018 introduced a ‘dangerous’ fault category – you can be fined up to £2,500, face a driving ban and get three penalty points for driving a vehicle that has failed its MOT because of a ‘dangerous’ problem. Previously, if your car failed its MOT, you had time to undertake any required repairs and usually receive a free retest, giving you a chance to shop around for the best value service elsewhere if you so wanted.
But now, if a dangerous fault is detected during your MOT (such as tyre tread depth below 1.6mm) you can’t simply drive the vehicle away to get it fixed, restricting your choice about where and when to have it repaired. This means you could be left without a vehicle until the faults are repaired, and you will most likely need to have your car repaired by the garage that has carried out the MOT – which could be a lot pricier than you’d wish, especially at a main dealer.
We believe our MOT preparation check is the answer to avoiding a ‘dangerous’ MOT failure. Our technicians will check over all MOT elements including lights, brakes, steering, suspension, fuel system, seats and seat belts, and be able to guide you on whether your car is likely to fail, and if so, what repairs are required.
